Singer-songwriter Ludovic Alarie and poet Tasia Bachir formed Nous Deux in 2023. They make deep heart’s core music: music that resonates deeply with the heart, blending intimate emotions with rich, soulful textures.
After opening for Blonde Redhead’s latest tour in Canada, they are now releasing their first single, “Toi, moi, nous deux”. The song transports us into an intimate, life-affirming and romantic world. Tasia’s magnetic vocals and Ludovic’s warm nylon guitar fill the space with elegance and grace. Blonde Redhead’s Simone Pace joins the duo, adding layers of hypnotic rhythms on drums and percussion. With elements of magical realism and an almost documentary-like quality, the song evokes the spirit of 1960s Chanson française, Brazilian music, and contemporary singer-songwriters such as Bill Callahan and Mount Eerie. Produced by Nous Deux, and recorded and mixed by Ludovic Alarie at Mixart Studio, the song was mastered by Brazilian engineer Ricardo Garcia (João Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, Tom Zé).
Tasia Bachir: “When I sat down to write ‘Toi, moi, nous deux,’ I wanted to go beyond the act of writing a song or melody, and reach into a more personal, internal world through a narrative voice. At times, it feels less like I’m singing and more like I’m speaking. What I’m after is a natural, soothing tone— onethat wraps around the listener like a familiar story, evoking the warmth of childhood memories. As both a songwriter and a partner in our duo, I find myself reflecting on the way we share our identity with the Other. While I’m the lyricist in Nous Deux, I aim to merge our voices, so the listener feels the ‘We’ in our music. And between the lines, an unspoken question arises: can we ever truly understand, in full and intimate depth, an experience beyond our own?”
Accompanying the release of the single is a stop-motion video, created in collaboration with Berlin-based visual artist Madeleine Brunnmeier, which adds a striking visual dimension to the song’s emotional depth.
